My name is Logan Moore, and I am on the path of becoming an Eagle Scout. For my Eagle Scout project, I chose to work with Sistercare because the organization reminds me of one that helped my own family many years ago.
My grandmother, Lillian, along with my mother, Diana, and my aunts, stayed in a place like Sistercare when they were escaping a domestic violence situation. One of my mom’s memories of the place was of their playroom. It was a space where she found toys and enjoyment during a very hard time. It’s where she went while my grandmother received the care and counseling she needed. It was a haven. And that safe place that gave them the chance to begin a new path of healing and safety.
Why a Hot Wheels’ racetrack and parking garage? The answer is simple; my scouting roots in derby racing. As a Cub Scout, derby racing is a tradition. You are given a block of wood that you get to make it into any design race car your imagination can think, and your skill, or your dad/adult mentor, can build. I loved building derby cars and raced them every year. It was a special tradition I shared with my father, grandfather, and uncles. And at home, I would make racetracks out of anything I could find. Today, I’m a car enthusiast.
Because of those memories and my connection to both racing and the mission of Sistercare, building a Hot Wheels racetrack with a parking garage was the perfect fit. It was my desire that my Eagle project honor the woman in my family and to recognize the important work of centers that help women and children find safety.
