Survivor Services
Sistercare’s philosophy of care is to empower survivors of domestic violence and their children to live free of intimate partner violence; become educated about domestic violence; be able to make informed decisions; take responsibility for themselves and their children; and achieve self-sufficiency. This philosophy is applied by offering survivors of domestic violence and their children a range of supportive, trauma-informed services.
ADULT SERVICES

Trained advocates provide crisis intervention, emotional support, safety planning, emergency shelter assessment, and other Sistercare and community resource referrals.
Emergency Shelters
Emergency shelters offer secure, confidential space where survivors of domestic violence can escape violence and plan for their future. Individual and group counseling, case management, children’s counseling, economic empowerment, room, food, laundry, and more are provided.
Community-Based Services
Advocates located in each of Sistercare’s five-county service area, including rural areas, provide survivors and their children with advocacy, case management, supportive services, and resource referrals.
Peer Support Groups
Support groups help survivors of domestic violence heal through discussion, encouragement, emotional support, and safety planning. Peer Groups are offered in person throughout the Midlands – Fairfield, Kershaw, Lexington, Newberry, and Richland counties. For more information, please call (803) 765-9428.
Individual Counseling
Licensed clinicians provide one-on-one, trauma-informed counseling to survivors residing in the community and in Sistercare’s emergency shelters. Individual Counseling is offered in person throughout the Midlands – Fairfield, Kershaw, Lexington, Newberry, and Richland counties.
Court Advocacy
Survivors are informed about the legal process, available options, and their rights. Court advocates help clients obtain legal services, accompany them to court, and offer assistance for orders of protection through the judicial system. Court Advocates are not attorneys and cannot dispense legal advice.
Legal Representation
Survivors may be represented upon an eligibility assessment for Family Court legal matter by licensed attorneys who ensure their legal rights are protected. These attorneys offer legal advice, provide legal options, and attend court hearings.
Health Services Advocacy
Advocates assist survivors and their children in receiving health-related screenings, medical services, health education, referrals, and follow-up services. Local hospitals are provided with public health and awareness materials specific to domestic violence and Sistercare’s services.
Housing Programs
Upon eligibility assessment, survivors are provided with safe housing, case management, and supportive services to help them live an independent life, free from violence.
FAMILY SERVICES
Child & Family Counseling
Licensed clinicians provide family and individual counseling and age-appropriate therapeutic activities for children to address the trauma of exposure to domestic violence.
Sistercare Teen Outreach Program (STOP)
Specialists provide interactive educational presentations to middle and high school teens to help them recognize health dating behaviors, relationship red flags, and the different forms of abusive behavior.
