Leah Wicevic discovered her passion for the nonprofit sector during her senior year at the University of South Carolina, where an internship with a local nonprofit inspired a career dedicated to creating meaningful change. More than 20 years later, she continues to view her work as a calling rather than a career.
Leah’s commitment to serving survivors of domestic violence is deeply personal. After learning that her sister had endured years of abuse before courageously fleeing with only her young daughter and a handbag, Leah gained a profound understanding of the courage it takes to rebuild a life free from violence. Inspired by her sister’s resilience and the strength of countless other survivors, she joined Sistercare in 2009.
Over the past 17 years, Leah has served in a variety of leadership roles, helping to expand Sistercare’s impact and advance its mission. In June 2023, the Board of Directors appointed her Chief Executive Officer. Today, she leads the organization with an unwavering commitment to ensuring every survivor has access to safety, hope, and the opportunity to build a future free from abuse.
Leah is a graduate of Leadership Columbia, Class of 2026, the Fred R. Sheheen Non-Profit Leadership Institute at Francis Marion University, Class of 2017, and the Carolina Leadership Seminars, TogetherSC CEO Learning Cohort, Class of 2023. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (SCCADVASA). In May of 2024, Leah completed the Stanford University Graduate School of Business Executive Program for Nonprofit Leaders, and in 2026 she received her Certificate in Strategic Leadership from the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina.
Outside of Sistercare, Leah’s greatest joy is spending time with her family. You’re most likely to find her hosting impromptu “dance recitals” with her spirited five-year-old daughter, enjoying a long run through the neighborhood (often with her loyal Boykin Spaniel, Finn), or cheering on the Gamecocks with her husband.
