Sistercare Welcomes New Director of Development, James E. Cooper

Sistercare is excited to announce that James E. Cooper is now serving as Director of Development.  Mr. Cooper comes to Sistercare with a wealth of knowledge and a deep passion for serving survivors of domestic violence and their children.  In addition to the professional experience he brings, Mr. Cooper also served for many years as a Sistercare volunteer and was awarded Sistercare’s Volunteer of the Year in 2009.

Mr. Cooper has 25 years of experience in health services and has worked at WellCare of South Carolina, Palmetto AIDS Life Support Services (PALSS), the South Carolina Department of Social Services, Babcock Center, Palmetto Place Children’s Emergency Shelter, and the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs.

Mr. Cooper is very involved in the local community and sits on several boards to include the South Carolina Philharmonic, Columbia Jewish Federation, National Alliance on Mental Illness Mid-Carolina, and Beth Shalom Synagogue.  He also is a graduate of the FBI Citizens Academy, a member of the Jewish Communal Engagement on Relationships with Black Communities Task Force, and a member of the Benedict College Life Member Alumni Association. 

Mr. Cooper has a bachelor’s degree in Economics/Business Administration with a second major in Therapeutic Recreation from Benedict College.  He obtained his master’s degree in Health Services Management from Webster University.  James is married and has two daughters and two grandchildren.  He enjoys family, community work, traveling and relaxing.
